JOHNS, Earl E., age 74, a 48 year resident of Kettering, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Heartland of Centerville. He was born on June 7, 1938 in Dover, OH to the late Glenn and Angie Johns.
Earl graduated from Tuscarawas High School in 1956 and Otterbein College in Westerville in 1960. He also served the City of Westerville Fire Department. After college he worked for 39 years as a Radio-Chemist at the Miamisburg Mound Lab. Earl was Past Master of Minerva Lodge #98 and of Adoniram Council, Past High Priest of Trinity Chapter, Past Commander of Valley Commandery #80, member of the Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite, and KYCH (Knight of the York Cross of Honor). He was a loyal member of Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church where he served as ruling elder, Chancel Choir member, and de facto building supervisor. His hobbies included Aviation Club and Pedaling Pals of the Hithergreen Senior Center.
Earl is preceded in death by his brothers, Paul, Harold and Ray Johns. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Phyllis; son, David E. (Karen) Johns; daughter, Tanya J. (Tim) Taulbee; grandchildren, Christopher, Katie and Alexander "A.J." Johns; and numerous other family members and friends.
Family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering with Blue Lodge and AASR Ring service at 6:30pm. A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, 4417 Bigger Rd., Kettering, OH 45440 with the Rev. Dr. Julia Wharff Piermont officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church.
