WAIGAND, Earleen V. (Lee), 63, of Sacramento, Anchorage, Chicago and Oakwood, to name a few, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2006, comfortably in her home. Born in Chicago, Lee Waigand (nee Hoff) escaped high school and went on to an illustrious career in art and art design. She worked in the newspaper business for nearly 40 years, starting as an advertising artist before switching over to the editorial side. She quickly moved up, serving as an art director and presentation editor at many papers, including the Dayton Daily News, before being named managing editor of visuals at the East Valley Tribune in Mesa, Ariz., in 2003. She won numerous awards and earned the respect of her colleagues. She is survived by her children: John Steven Waigand Jr. and wife March, Erin Kichline and husband Scott, Jill Kelley and husband Jeremy, James Waigand and wife Bonnie, and Timothy Mallory, as well as her ex-husband, John Steven Waigand Sr. She will also be missed by her grandchildren: Kaylen, Hannah, Lauren, Ben, Miles, Zoey, Eli and Ella. There will be a Memorial Mass Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 10 AM, at St. Helen Parish, 5086 Burkhart Rd, Riverside. Another memorial is pending in Sacramento, Calif. Lee asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
