FARTHING, Edward Allen, age 86, of Centerville, passed away at his home on Friday, July 26, 2019. Edward was born on July 30, 1932 in Springfield, OH to Henry and Ruth (Shirk) Farthing.
Ed graduated from Indian Lake HS in 1950. He then joined the Navy and served during the Korean Conflict while stationed in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He met and married Shirley and raised his family in Xenia, OH. After the premature death of his first wife, he met and married Erline in 1983. At the age of 68, after the death of his second wife, he moved to Clearwater, FL. In 2002, he volunteered for the U.S. Coast Guard, where he was an auxiliary member training the young recruits. Ed was dedicated to his country through his service his entire life. When he became too ill to serve in 2014, he moved back to the Dayton, Ohio area to be with his family. Through the help of his daughter-in-law Delaine and grand-son-in-law Shawn, he was able to live a full and healthful life even as his health was failing. His family maintained regular dinners at his home to provide him with the love and support that he had been so faithfully providing them for their entire lives.
Ed was a loving son, sibling, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be remembered forever for the compassionate, dedicated, and honest person that he always embodied.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bob; his sisters Joyce, Wilma, Leah, and Rose; his first wife Shirley (Grefer) Farthing; second wife Erline (Boyd) Farthing; step-son David Boyd; step-daughter Dorothy Boyd. Ed is survived by his 4 children: his only daughter Karen Carpenter, sons William (Elaine), Keith (Suzi) and Greg (Delaine), his step-daughter Brenda (Jeff) Weaver; 8 grandchildren: Erin (Kiel), Eric, Samantha, Jessica, Elizabeth, Joshua, Sasha (Shawn), Jennifer; 6 step-grandchildren: Joseph Massey, Cody Weaver, Mike Boyd, Thomas Boyd, Paige Weaver-Connor, and Christina Weaver-Coulter; 13 great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Gianna, McKenzie, Kayden, Hope, Araya, Melody, Benjamin, Alexis, Joe, Jeremiah, Noah, and Dakota; 8 step-great-grandchildren: Skiley, Liam, Riley B., Reagan, Riley C., Anthony, Mackenzie, and Sumer; his special friend Rose Perrone and multiple nieces and nephews.
