Edwin Bohardt

BOHARDT, Edwin “Toots”, age 88, of Kettering, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2005. Toots and Betty were married for 64 years. Their love for each other has served as a great example for their entire family. He retired after 38 years as a plumber with General Motors. Toots was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. He was a terrific father and was exceedingly proud of his four sons. Toots was best known as one of the finest amateur golfers in Dayton and Ohio during the late 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Up until 1975 he was a member of Community Golf Course, where he won the club championship several times. His last round of golf as a member of NCR Country Club was an 82 on the South which was 2 better than his age. He was the Dayton City amateur medalist twice. Toots was low amateur in the Ohio Open three times. He qualified for a total of eight (six consecutive USGA Amateur Public Links) national championships. The last one was the USGA Senior Amateur in 1973. 1954 was his most noteworthy accomplishment as a member of the Dayton Team that won the national championship at Brown Deer Park in Milwaukee. Preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Bob and Jack. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean (Nigh) Bohardt; children, Jim Bohardt, of Seattle, WA, Thomas (Judy) Bohardt, of Cleveland, OH, Jeff (Suzanne) Bohardt, of Oakwood, OH and Mike (Connie) Bohardt, of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Emily Acklin, Amanda Mooney, Kristin Bohardt, Doug Bohardt, Jim Bohardt, Connie Guerrieri, Cheryl Pike, Carmelita North, Michelle Wolfe and Mark Wydra and 20 great-grandchildren. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 29, 2005 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Family will receive friends after services until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
