of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002. Mrs. Mack was born March 15, 1911 in Inverness Mississippi to James Dabney and Rebecca Gholston . One of seven seven children, three brothers and three sisters, she attended Mississippi State College for Women at Columbus, Mississippi . In late 1930, she moved to Washington DC where she attended Strayer Business College and Abbott Art School . Mrs. Mack was employed with the U. S. Treasury Department, Federal Government, Washington, D. C. as an administrative assistant. Her husband of twenty-nine years, Dr. Clifton E. Mack, served as Commissioner of Federal Supply until 1959 when he and Emma moved to Dayton, Ohio. In Washington, Dr. and Mrs. Mack were active in national and international politics and were often invited to the White House for receptions and parties with the President and other government officials and dignitaries. Emma was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent of the Irvan Wells Chapter, Ft. Belvoir, Va. ('56-'58) .Her involvement in the DAR continued in Dayton Ohio, where she became actively involved with the Jonathan Dayton Chapter of the DAR. She served in several leadership positions including Regent (1969-1970) and Vice Regent (1968-1969 and 1976-1978). Her interests included creative writing, the symphony, theater, literature, history, puppetry, public speaking, art history and painting. An avid writer, she won awards for her short stores and poetry. She served on the executive Boards of the Women's Literary Club, Friends of the Library, Wright State University, Kettering Sister City, Kettering Residents Association, and Dayton Woman's Symphony Organization. She was a member of the Dayton Women's Club, The Ohio State Faculty Club, David's United Church of Christ, the Dayton Literary Club, Friends of the Dayton Ballet and Art Institute. For Emma, life was an adventure, an opportunity to explore the wonders of the world around her. She had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and creative expression and often planted the seeds of her own passions in the hearts and minds of those who knew her. Emma Mack is survived by her son Clifton, daughter-in-law, Kris, two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at David's United Church of Christ, Kettering, Ohio. Graveside services will be held at David's Cemetery, immediately following service.
