age 70, of Centerville, passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 4, 2001. He was born in Mount Pleasant, PA, the son of the late Joseph W. and Clara Gurtis. Cotton graduated from Morris-Harvey College (now University of Charleston) in Charleston, WV where he starred in football and baseball and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. He retired, after 30 years, from Kaiser Aluminum Corp., in Ravenswood, WV and moved to Centerville in 1993. Cotton loved woodworking and did some fine work in his complete shop at his residence. Preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Shera Lee in 1998 and a sister, Patty Weir. Survived by 2 sons, Thomas Gurtis of Parkersburg, WV and Timothy Gurtis of Omaha, NE; 2 daughters, Jana Lee Gurtis of Sante Fe, NM and Kathryn Howenstine of Randolph Twp., NJ; 5 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Joe Gurtis, Jr. of Oberlin, OH, James Gurtis of Cleveland, OH, Robert Gurtis of Ravenswood, WV, and John Gurtis of Tampa, FL; a sister, Sylvia Gurtis of Pittsburgh, PA. and a sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Tom Halloran of Centerville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday in the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville with Fr. Jim Van-Vurst officiating. The family will greet friends from 3-5:00 P.M., Monday in the funeral home.
