FERGUSON, Evelyn, age 83, of Centerville, passed away on Monday, May 09, 2016.
Evelyn was born October 31, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio to Felix H. and Laura (White) Baker. She was a 1951 graduate of Fairview High School and has been involved with the Class of '51 reunion committee for the past 25 years. Evelyn was the Executive Director of the Kettering Chamber of Commerce for 17 years, in 2000 she became Manager of the I-675 Development Council for the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. She then worked in various capacities at the Chamber, retiring in 2004.
Evelyn has volunteered in many organizations in the community. She is a 50 year member of the League of Women Voters, serving on both the local and state board of directors. She served as the volunteer secretary of the Kettering Community Improvement Corporation from its inception until October 2012. She was volunteer secretary of the Miami Valley Military Affairs Association. In 1992 Evelyn received the Ralph Winkler Award for outstanding service.
Evelyn served as Treasurer of the Kettering-Moraine Historical Society. In 1984 she received the Kettering Kiwanis Citizen of the Year Award and in 1987 she was awarded the Citizen of the Year designation by the City of Kettering. She was one of the Dayton Daily News Ten Top Women in 1989.
Evelyn's loving husband, John L., preceded her in death in 2014. They were married 61 years. Evelyn was also preceded in death by her sister, Carol Fetter in 2015, brothers-in-law Charles Ferguson and Ed Hank and nephew Eddie Hank. Evelyn is survived by her three sons, John of Centerville, Brian of Houston, Texas and Stuart of Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Also surviving are granddaughters, Susan, Melissa, Victoria and Kelsey. Other survivors include Brother-in-law Bud Fetter, Sisters-in-law Helen Ferguson and Joan Hank, nephews Randy Fetter, James Hank and Charles Hank, nieces Gem-en Ferguson and Susan Moriarty.
Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow with a committal service at the Dayton National Cemetery at a later date.
