LAMBERT, Evelyn K., age 90, of Oakwood, OH and Naples, FL, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014. She was under the compassionate care of the Chateau at the Moorings in Naples, FL where she succumbed to Parkinson's disease. Evelyn was born on February 6, 1924 to Norman and Florence Knowlton of Ferguson, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Lambert, and her brother, Norman P. Knowlton, MD. She is survived by her 4 children, Ann K. Lambert (Steve Come, MD) of Cambridge, MA, Carol J. Lambert of Clinton, MA, Stephen K. Lambert (Patti) of Englewood, OH and William W. Lambert (Sherry) of Indianapolis, IN. Also honoring her memory are 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and many, many good friends.
Evelyn grew up in Ferguson, Missouri and graduated from Ferguson High School in 1941. She graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in English in 1945. It was at Cornell that she met her husband, Bill, and they were married on August 30, 1946. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage until Bill passed in 2009.
After Cornell, Evelyn worked as a fashion buyer at Famous Barr in St. Louis, Missouri. After marrying Bill, Evelyn raised her four children in Oakwood, OH. She played a strong supporting role in the success of Lambert Corporation, a family business that manufactures lawn and garden equipment. Evelyn was a long time member of St. Paul's Church in Oakwood. She was an active volunteer with the Junior League of Dayton and the Dayton Chapter of United Cerebral Palsy where she served as its President at one time.
She loved gardening, especially weeding, decorating, tennis, and world travel. She was energized by projects- hers or yours. She could invariably find a way to get it done. She was a master at friendship, including match-making. Her loving enthusiasms and concerns knit her family together. Evelyn's practical and humane intelligence, her humor, her elegant grit, strong work ethic, high standards, and zest for a good time sustained her long-running class act.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30am with a memorial service to follow on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Mausoleum Chapel at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, OH for a chance to remember BOTH Evelyn and husband Bill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org).
