DeVol, F. Eugene (Gene), 91, of Centerville, passed away on January 15, 2020. He was born on March 9, 1928 to the late Forrest Eugene and Ethel Elizabeth (Bateman) DeVol. Gene was a graduate of University of Cincinnati and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Gene retired in 1990 from NCR Corporation, where he worked for 46 years. During his time at working at NCR, Gene served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. An avid photographer, he enjoyed photographing and creating slide shows of his various travels. Gene and Joan took many trips throughout his life, one of the most memorable being a four month trip to Alaska in their RV. He has also seen places such as The Mediterranean, South America, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Gene was passionate about serving others, sitting on the board of directors for many different clubs and societies, such as the Dayton Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering and the Fraternity College Education and Charitable Foundation board to name a few. He was the recipient of two prestigious awards; the NCR Corporate award for Excellence in Technical Planning and Support and the Mr. Alpha Xi of the Year award.
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his infant twin sons who passed in 1952. Gene is survived by his loving wife, of 68 years married and 72 years together, Joan B. (O’Donnell) DeVol; his children, Stephen E. DeVol, Mark W. (Becky) DeVol, Thomas K. (Helen) DeVol, Robert A. (Sally) DeVol, Janice M. (Brian) Mitchell, Jill A. (Timothy) Hawk, and Daniel J. (Erika) DeVol; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Leonard Chapel. Family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:30 to 11 AM.
