PHILLIANS, Fanny B. (Baker), age 90, of Lecanto, FL, died Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Inverness, FL. Fanny was born May 27, 1922 in Dayton, OH to parents Harry and Christina Baker. She was married for 63 years to Max B. Phillians. Max preceded her in death in 2006. Fanny and Max moved to Florida in 1992 to escape the Ohio winters and join life-long friends in Citrus County. In 1940, Fanny graduated from Steele High School and latter attended Otterbein College.
Fanny retired from the U.S State Department of Defense after 22 years of distinguished service in the Defense Logistics Agency. She received several commendations during her career but the moment she was most proud of was a personal letter from President Gerald Ford praising her work in saving money in negotiating contracts. In addition to her other duties, Fanny also served as an Equal Opportunity Counselor at DESE for 13 years. In 1979 she was named the top EEO Counselor in the Defense Department and received an award from Washington D.C..
Fanny is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Robert Thompson of Springboro, OH and her 2 granddaughters, Jennifer and Emily Thompson of Dallas, TX.
A service was held in Florida for Mrs. Phillians at St. Michael the Archangel Greek Orthodox Church in Lecanto, FL. An interment service will be held on Tuesday, April 16 at 12:00 noon at the mausoleum at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, OH. Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Butler/Warren counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Middletown, OH, 45005.
