WENZKE, Frank Edmund, M.D., age 91, of Oakwood, passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, at Hospice of Dayton. Dad was born on a farm just north of Celina, Ohio, on December 11, 1913, the seventh of nine children, to Joseph and Theresa (Bertke) Wenzke. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1931. He played basketball and was an excellent student. He attended Ohio State University in the pre-med program and graduated from Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1937 at the age of twenty-three. Following medical school Dad trained at St. Elizabeth Hospital for two years, where he met his future wife, Rita M. Moylan, R.N. He started his family practice on St. Paul Avenue in Dayton in 1939. He moved his practice to 1423 Wyoming Street in 1941, where he served thousands of patients until his retirement on January 1, 1980. Dad directed the large Public Service Department at St. Elizabeth Hospital for many years, which served many low income Montgomery Co. residents. Dad was past president of the Catholic Physicians Guild, a member of the American Medical Association and the Montgomery County Medical Society. He and Mother were members of Holy Angels Parish for fifty-five years. They were staunch supporters of the Blue Army of Our Lady, an organization which makes and distributes rosaries all over the world. Dad was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Rita (Moylan) Wenzke, his parents, Joseph and Theresa (Bertke) Wenzke; his son, Dr. Eugene P. Wenzke; his brothers, Aegidius, Dr. Herman, Dr. John, Dr. Joseph, Louis, and Carroll; and his sisters, Frances Scharf and Catherine Bigger. He is survived by his children, Jerome (Nancy) Wenzke of Oakwood, Dr. Marilyn (Kenneth) Nickels of Maryland, James (Ellie) Wenzke of Beavercreek, Dr. Frank (Kathleen) Wenzke of Centerville, Janet (James) Pettry of Wilmington, Dr. Robert (Jennifer) Wenzke of Sylvania, Ohio, Margaret Wenzke of Oakwood, Edward (Joyce) Wenzke of Sarasota, FL, Dr. Stephen Wenzke of Spring Valley, Teresa Wenzke of Oakwood; and daughter-in-law, Diane Wenzke of Oakwood. Dad is also survived by grandchildren, Christian (Lisa) Wenzke, Karin (Brad) Lauterbach, Gretchen (Jeremy) Zucker, Liesl M. Wenzke, Erica L. Wenzke, Rachel F. Wenzke, R.J. (Rhiannon) Nickels, John Nickels, Marie T. Wenzke, Laura J. Sigler, Michelle (Gary) Nissen, Dr. Jennifer L. Wenzke, Dr. David (Robyn) Wenzke, Dr. Daniel (Alexandra) Wenzke, Susan E. Wenzke, Mary (Anton) Smith, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Wenzke, Steven A. Wenzke, Claire V. Pettry, Sara J. Pettry, Thomas (Rachel) Wenzke, Elizabeth Wenzke, Kathryn Wenzke, Susan S. Wenzke, Kristina Wenzke, Erika R. Wenzke, Caroline Wenzke, Kevin Wenzke, Eric Wenzke, Jessica E. Wenzke, Michael J. Wenzke, Caitlin A. Wenzke, Rebecca A. Wenzke, Eugene P. Wenzke and Megan J. Wenzke. Dad is also survived by great grandchildren, Kate Wenzke, Jack Wenzke, Anna Lauterbach, Mark Lauterbach, Joe Lauterbach, Allison Sigler, J.P. Sigler, Morgan Sigler, Brandon Sigler, Nicholas Nissen, Christina Nissen, Melissa Nissen, Stefan Wenzke and Zachary Wenzke. He is also survived by special nephews, John Bigger, Dr. Thomas G. Thornton and William M. Thornton and many other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nursing staff and administration at Lincoln Park Manor, Kettering Medical Center and Hospice of Dayton for their generous care. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8:00 PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave., Oakwood. Prayer service will be held at 9:30 AM, Thursday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 218 K. St., Dayton, Ohio. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Angels in Education, the scholarship program at Holy Angels School c/o Holy Angels School, 233 L. St., Dayton, OH 45409.
