GRETHER, Gary E., age 68, of Dayton, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006 at Hospice of Dayton. Gary was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Dayton. He was a 1958 graduate of Fairmont High School and attended Sinclair Community College, where he received his degree in Radiology. Gary served in the United States Navy, stationed on a destroyer in the Mediterranean Sea during peace time. After the Navy, Gary worked in sales at the Metropolitan Clothing Store and then went on to work for DESC and WPAFB. Gary enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, traveling and biking. He was a member of the Oakwood Community Center and most recently played the role of the “police officer” in the group the “Retirement Village People,” who performed at the Dayton Dragons baseball games. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Jane Grether. He is survived by his sister, Susan Bonnevier of LaGrange Park, IL; 2 nephews, Perry (Cheryl) Bonnevier and Jeff (Jamie) Bonnevier; uncle, Richard A. Smith; and cousins, Rick Smith and Dr. Kent (Wendy) Scholl. A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with Pastor Mark Combs officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service until 3:00PM. A private burial of Gary’s urn will be held at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
