Gary Lee Weidner

WEIDNER, Gary L., age 70, born June 22, 1935 in Dayton, OH died peacefully at his home in Centerville October 25, 2005 after an 18 month battle with cancer. Gary received his Bachelor’s Degree from Miami University in the spring of 1957 and began his teaching career with the Centerville Schools in the fall of 1957 as an English Teacher at the High School. After this, he spent the next 6 years teaching Junior High School American History at the Magsig building. While he was teaching at Magsig he started a Graduate Program at Miami, and completed his Masters Degree in 1963. He was a recipient of the Jack Scott Award, the highest award presented by The Ohio Association for College Admissions Counselors. In 1964 Gary moved to the High School as a Guidance Counselor. He stayed in this position until he retired July 1, 1989 after 32 years in education, and then worked as a consultant to the Centerville schools for testing programs for several more years. Gary is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carl and Lulu Wright Weidner; sisters, Mary Hecathorn and Rose Moore; and brothers, Harold and Leonard Weidner. He is survived by his brother, and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Elane Weidner of Arcanum, OH; Richard Weidner of Centerville, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Gary infectiously shared a wonderful spark for living with all, but especially his students. He was more than an educator, a counselor, he was an inspiration. He kept his students well into adulthood retaining the special relationships developed at Centerville High School. Gary will be missed in body, but remains alive in the hearts of all he touched. Graveside services will be held, Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Arlington Cemetery, Brookville, OH. If you would like to follow in procession, meet Saturday at the Routsong Funeral Home, Centerville Chapel, 81 N. Main St. at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Centerville Education Fund, 111 Virginia Ave., Centerville, OH 45458 for a memorial scholarship in Gary Weidner’s name.
