SMITH, Genevieve Marie-Louise Mirloup, born April 7, 1921 in La Ferte-St. Aubin, France, passed away on January 28, 2015. Survived by her daughters, Tricia McGill (Mert) of Springboro, OH, Madeleine Miller (Tim) of Westminster, MD, Evelyne Holder of Richmond, VA, and by her son, Lawrence Smith (Diana) of Glen Burnie, MD. Genevieve was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Sean, Melissa, Suzanne, Devin, Molly, Jennifer, Michael, Courtney and Tyler, and 4 great-grandchildren, Meghan, Madison, Jackson and Brantley. Preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Maj. Henderson L. Smith, Ret. Genevieve grew up in France during WWII, met her future husband, whose squadron was stationed near her home, married at the American Church of Paris, then moved to the U.S. where his career with the U.S. Air Force took them. They traveled, had 4 children, and settled near Washington D.C. Genevieve began her career as a French teacher in Maryland after graduating from Georgetown University's French teaching program in 1960. In 1976, Genevieve returned to France, and in 1983 moved to Maryland, then California, and finally Ohio in 1992, where she lived in Oakwood for many years. She was a member of St. Albert's Church, Sister Cities Association, and had a close knit group of French friends in the area. She loved to garden and sing. Everyone who knew her will miss her passion for teaching French to anyone who cared to learn, her strong spirit, and her beautiful voice. Many thanks to Grand Court of Dayton, especially Maryanne, to Brookdale Place of Oakwood, Hospice of the Miami Valley, and lastly Bethany Village for their care and service. A private memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
