George William Hellmund, Sr

HELLMUND, George William Sr., age 81 of Kettering, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 25, 2012. George graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948 and proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War in Germany. He retired from the State of Ohio Architects Office, where he worked as a Project Representative. George loved the outdoors, especially camping. He volunteered extensively with the Boy Scouts in Ohio, where he served as a Scout Master, and with the Boys Club in Kentucky where he was given the high honor of Kentucky Colonel. Preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Hellmund and Ruth Harlett; his first wife, Shirley (nee Zimmerman) Hellmund; and his grandson, Micah Bennett. George is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Jean; son, George Jr. (Lori) Hellmund; daughter, Vicki Hellmund; grandchildren, Elijah and Josiah Bennett and Daniel (Erin), Jared and Travis Hellmund; great-granddaughter, Skyler Micah Bennett; sisters, Dorothy Hypes and Mary Wright; brother, Donald (Maryrita) Shadick; and numerous relatives and friends. Family will greet friends on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 5:00-8:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd, Kettering. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 29 at 10:00AM at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Shoemaker officiating. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
