George Woodruff Diefenderfer, Jr.

DIEFENDERFER, George Woodruff, Jr., age 95, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019.

George was born on August 19, 1923 in Chicago, IL to George Woodruff, Sr., and Julia (nee Van Aken) Diefenderfer. He graduated from Miami University and worked in commercial sales at WDTN for 25 years. From 1941-1945, George served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

George just celebrated his 39th year of sobriety. He was a sponsor and mentor to many for AA and past president of Southside Club over the years. He founded the Dayton Red Skin Club, and was a golf starter at NCR for 27 years. George enjoyed reading, learning about military history, and great jazz music.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia P. Diefenderfer; sister, Jean Stapleton and brother, Alex Diefenderfer. George is survived by his wife of 16 years, Frenchie Edwards (nee Clevinger) Diefenderfer; sons, Andy Diefenderfer of Dayton, Marc Diefenderfer of Arizona; daughter, Donna (Stephen) Walker of Dayton, David (Sherry) Edwards of Dayton; grandchildren, Brad, John (Ellen), Elizabeth (Sam), Kevin (Nikki), Ben, Jayme, Dan; sisters, Sally, Gretchen, Lesley; multiple nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 11 at 4pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd, Kettering with a visitation to follow immediately after.
