SMITH, Gladys H. ,of Oakwood, died Sunday, March 10, 2002. She was a member of the Dayton Women's Club and a life-time member of the First Lutheran Church. For several years, Gladys worked in the Aid to Dependent Children Program as a caseworker. She transferred to the Aid to the Blind until 1951. In 1968, she was appointed supervisor of the Adult Program and in 1974 was appointed Division Administrator for the Medicaid program which combined the Adult program and the Aid for the Aged program. Gladys was past president of the Dayton Chapter of the Ohio Society to Prevent blindness and also a member of the Montgomery County Council on Aging and the Board of Mental Retardation. The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners proclaimed April 6, 1983, as ''Gladys Smith Day in Montgomery County.'' She received her undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Eldon Hoerner. Survived by special friend, Betty J. Walker and many other beloved friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the Routsong Funeral Home 6 Oakwood Ave., Oakwood, with the Rev. Rick Powell officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 138 W. First St., Dayton, Ohio 45402.
