Gladys Ivette Bell

BELL, Gladys I., 57 passed away on June 23, 2007 in the presence of her adoring and loving family at her Springboro, OH residence. Gladys (affectionately known as Bessie) was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, to her parents, Gladys Ramirez Molina Tomassini, and Luis Fernando Tomassini Soto. After meeting her husband to be, Dennis Edward Bell, of Dayton, OH, while on a business trip to Puerto Rico, she made the courageous decision to leave her family and embark on a new chapter in her life in Dayton, entrusting full faith and confidence in God that she could create a family and ultimately a legacy where she scarcely new a soul. Gladys and Dennis have two children, Jonathan, of Centerville, OH and Kristin, currently residing in Carbondale, IL. Gladys worked for Montgomery County, devoting almost 25 years of her life in service to her community while creating lifelong friendships with colleagues and associates. While she would say her biggest accomplishment was successfully raising two children and devoting almost 30 years of her life to a committed marriage, one could easily see that her inspiring display of courage and faith in the face of cancer and ultimately insurmountable odds was equally as impressive. Gladys refused to be slowed down by her battle with breast and brain cancer, continuing to work full time and pursue some of her beloved hobbies like cooking, reading, and cross stitching. Never for one second did she ever project anything but the most inspiring optimism and confidence that she would overcome her battle with cancer. To help raise awareness for cancer research within Montgomery County, Gladys helped to organize a breast cancer walk with the help of some associates at work, and she always wore a “Making Strides” ball cap with pride when she had the chance. Rejoicing in the fact Gladys had accomplished every task God had laid out for her 57 years ago, God decided it was time for Gladys to rejoin Him in His kingdom. With the unending support of family, friends, and the expert care of Hospice professionals, her final days and passing, while sad, were a tremendous blessing to all that were beside her. She is survived by her older brother, Luis Fernando Tomassini Ramirez, seven nephews, one niece, and countless other family and friends. A special thank you to everyone at Hospice of Dayton; the service you provide to the terminally ill, and perhaps even more importantly to their loved ones, is more valuable than words can express. You are tangible, visible proof that angels are all around us. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Thursday, June 26, 2007 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 6666 Springboro Pike, Miami Twp. with Fr. Ron Combs officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 25, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, OH.
