KERSHNER, Glen R, age 63, of Centerville passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011.
Glen was a 1966 graduate of Fairmont West High School and in 1971 he graduated from University of Cincinnati with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He was Executive Vice President of Universal 1 Credit Union where he spent his entire 44 year professional career.
Glen was a member and a trustee of Fairmont Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Dayton Agonis Club and a past member of the Jaycees and the American Businessmen’s Club. Glen was a former coach at FKAL and an active member of the Society of American Baseball Research. He was an American Cancer Society volunteer and supported the importance of breast cancer awareness. He was a past weekly presenter of Channel 2 “Team of the Week”, a Dayton Gems Hockey organist, and was also a community blood and tissue donor.
Every year, Glen enjoyed taking his family to Hilton Head Island and one of his most memorable trips was his first cruise in February with his best friend, wife, and soul mate Sharon. Glen can be described by all his loved ones and those who knew him as a loving, amazing, strong family man who was a best friend to everyone.
He was an avid Reds, Bearcats, and Browns fan and was a mentor and role model to many. Glen had great integrity, loyalty, and was extremely proud of his children. He loved music and enjoyed sharing his gift with others. Glen was a gracious host for countless social gatherings. He was a proud American and a true patriot.
Glen was a passionate soul, true gentleman, and made the world a better place.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and Jack; and father-in-law, Richard Tate. Glen is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sharon (Tate) Kershner; children, Chris and Lori Kershner, Kimberly (Kershner) and Chris Gombola, and Jason and Mindy Kershner; grandchildren, 4 year old Morgan Kershner, 2 year old Tatum Kershner, 3 year old Colin Gombola, and 11 month old Ava Gombola; sister, Marilyn Kershner and Al Tweedy; mother-in-law, Leeanna Tate; and his best furry friend, Buddy.
Family will greet friends from 5:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave., Kettering. Burial in David’s Cemetery.
