Harold Arthur Herkenhine, age 91, of Bellbrook, Ohio passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Hospice of Dayton. He was a graduate of Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan Bogart Herkenhine.
After graduating High School, Harold served in the Army during World War II. He served with the 2765th Base Photo Mapping Company and the 659th Photo Topo Battalion in France and Germany, and also with the 655th Engineer Topo Battalion in Germany. He had charge of 25 military personnel in the preparation of all drafting phases of mapping and topographical maps from aerial photographs. He also assisted in the designing of various tools. While in the Army, he received the American Theater Ribbon, Lame Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
After the war, he was employed by Koehler Aircraft for 22 years and later retired from Centerville Builders Supply Company after many years.
Pop enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and he had a special love for woodworking.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Long and husband Paul; son, Gregory Herkenhine and wife Deborah and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
