SHOEMAKER, Harold, “Gene,” 93, of Kettering passed away on January 1, 2008 at his residence as he wished. Gene joins “his girl Peggy,” who, after 62 loving, fun-filled years of marriage, left his side April 5, 2007. Born in Eaton, IN, he was predeceased by his father, Charles, mother, Wanda and sister, Helen. A successful manufacturer’s rep. for Wagner Mgf. & Lindy Sales for 50+ years. A proud member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Sydney, OH for 60 years and the Antioch Shrine Temple of Dayton since 1992. Gene and Peggy leave behind 3 devoted children, Gerry (Steve, deceased) Cunningham, Ann (Lew) Rakocy and Charlie (Diane) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Ray, John and David Leonard; Tim Cunningham and Kristy Abeele; Shannon Lawrence and 11 great-grandchildren. Gene was always “working the room” and never met a stranger. He had countless friends who shared good times and wove indelible memories to be forever cherished. You may join the family to toast and celebrate Gene’s life with a visitation from 10:00-noon on Saturday at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with a funeral service to follow at noon also at the funeral home. Burial will be in David’s Cemetery immediately after the funeral. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all of the caregivers who helped make Gene comfortable in the last few months. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229-3095.
