STEPHENS, Harold E., age 87, of Centerville passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Hospice of Dayton. Harold was born July 19, 1916 in Whitley City, Kentucky to George and Martha Ellen (Ball) Stephens. After his father’s death, Harold and four of his siblings left Whitley City for The Junior Order Home for Orphans in Tiffin, Ohio. After graduating from the Junior Order High School, Harold attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Harold served in the Army Air Force during WWII in the China-Burma-India Theatre of Operations. Harold married Marjorie A. Martin, also from Tiffin, Ohio while he was stationed in Reno, Nevada in 1945. After WWII, Harold returned to Heidelberg College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and later a Master’s Degree from Bowling Green State University. During his career in education, Harold was a Jr. High School Principal, High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent for the Tiffin Public Schools. Harold was preceded in death by his 5 brothers; Carl, Paul, Jack, Caleb, and Homer; and 4 sisters, twins, Myrtle and Mabel, Flonnie, and Georgia. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marjorie, his daughter, Beth Ann, of Centerville; son, Robert (Cathy) Stephens of New Hope, PA; 3 grandchildren, Gina Davio, Jesse and Rafael Stephens; 1 great-granddaughter, Isabel all of New Hope, PA. Harold is also survived by his sister, Beatrice DeRose of Tiffin, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of Kettering Hospital, fifth floor south! Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 11 at 1:00 PM. At the Woodland Mausoleum, 118 Woodland Rd., Dayton, with Rev. Phil Fershee officiating. Entombment in Woodland Mausoleum. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 8:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville.
