BATTES, Harold J. "Harry", age 82, of Dayton passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at The Suites at Walnut Creek.
Harold was born to the late Harold and Florence H. (Culver) Battes on July 30, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from St. Vincent High School in Akron, OH and attended classes at both Ohio University and Akron University.
Harry served his country in the U.S. Army and then worked for 44 years as a Chemist at General Motors. He was a member of Church of the Incarnation, Scout Master of Troop #44, Knights of Columbus, Past Grand Knight, Marian Council, #3754. Harry also volunteered for the Sheriff's Department in Washington Township. He enjoyed Big Band music and oil painting.
Harry is preceded in death by his wife Janice, sister Joan Frybarger and parents.
He is survived by son, Hal (Kim) Battes; daughters, Anne Battes (Dave), Mary Ellen (Chris) Hickey, and Jane Battes; grandchildren Tara (Brandt) Herrington, P.J. Kirby, Jessica (Bryce) and Marty Battes, Meredith (Sean) O'Neill, and Mason Hickey; great grandchild Alana Herrington.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Walnut Creek for their loving care of Harry.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St. Centerville, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013, 10:00am at Church of the Incarnation, 7415 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, OH 45459.
