Harold Marr Wynne

February 15, 1924 — July 27, 2005

WYNNE, Harold Marr, born February 15, 1924 in Colorado Springs, CO to Kenneth Marr Wynne and Mildred Irene Knauss Marshall, died July 27, 2005 at Kettering Medical Center of a stroke. Harold graduated from San Diego High School in 1942. One of four brothers who served in WWII, he entered the Army Air Force in 1942 and became a radio operator/gunner in the 484th Bomb Group of the 15th Air Force, flying missions in B24’s over Germany and Yugoslavia out of Cerignoloa, Italy. Harold married Sylvia Katheryn Massey in Colorado Springs, CO, December 17, 1943. He was wounded in the summer of 1944 and received a Purple Heart. Harold was discharged in October, 1945 and graduated from Colorado University with a B.A. degree in journalism and education in 1949. He worked in Colorado on various newspapers around the area. Harold’s career included government service as communications director of the Army Air Defense Command (ARADCOM) in Colorado Springs. He also served the Seventh-day Adventist denomination in education and public relations in Chicago, IL, Loma Linda, CA and Portland, OR. While teaching English and journalism at Loma Linda University, he received his M.A. in communications. Harold retired from his position as associate director of development at Portland Adventist Medical Center in 1988. He continued to edit and publish a 15, 000 circulation community newspaper and shopping guide in Welches, OR. Harold was a member of Sigma Delta Chi and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). He was an active member of the Beavercreek SDA Church, where he played violin and viola in the band. Harold is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia; sons, Kerry, Gregory, and Stephen; daughter, Lynnette; and brother, Albert. Harold has 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Beavercreek with Pastor Hal Ward officiating. In memory of Harold, contributions may be made to the Youth Mission Trip at the Beavercreek Seventh-day Adventist Church, 670 Grange Hall Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45430.
