Harriett J. Blackmore

BLACKMORE, Harriett J., age 85, of Kettering, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Harriett was born on July 24, 1929 in Franklin, OH, daughter of the late Joseph and Roxie Schilling. She was a graduate of Wilmington College and Miami University. Harriett was an avid member of her church choir since she was a young child. She worked for many years as a teacher at JE Prass Elementary in the Kettering City School District, and also a substitute teacher in retirement for Kettering and Jensen Beach, FL school districts. Harriett was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Kettering Noon Optimist Club, PEO Chapter Z, United Methodist Women, and volunteered at the Fraze and other various organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gordon Blackmore and brother, Harold "Mike" Schilling. Harriett is survived by her children, Karen Denise (Tom) Buck and Greg (Debbie Ashbaugh) Blackmore; grandchildren, Andrew S. Buck, Jonathan T. Buck, and Adam Blackmore; great-granddaughter, Aria Marie Bowers; and beloved companion, Rosco "aka ScoeB" as well as numerous friends and family. A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd, Kettering. Family will greet friends two hours before the service. Burial will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kettering Noon Optimist Club for youth projects and/or scholarship funds, 4548 Presidential Way, Kettering, OH 45429. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to The Sanctuary at Wilmington Place and Hospice of Dayton for all the wonderful care they gave Harriett.
