age 84, of Dayton passed away Sunday, January 20, 2002. Gene was an NCR employee for over 46 years serving as the Patent Historian. He was a member of Patterson Park Church and the Kettering Moraine Historical Society. Gene was instrumental in the incorporation of the city of Kettering. He was also Deacon of the Kettering Chapel, United Brethren In Christ Church and was Secretary/Treasurer of the Montgomery County Association for the Blind. Gene is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Maxine E. Kniess. Survivors include daughters, Cynthia J. (Wayne) Ketchen of Dayton, OH and Slyvia Lynn Shearer of Knoxville, TN; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Christine Grisham, Jack Ryan Shearer, Amanda Noelle Shearer, Nathan Wayne Ketchen and Troy Elliot (Erin) Ketchen; 1 great-grandson, Ian Lee Grisham; and brother, James Kniess of Cookeville, TN. Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, January 24, at 1:00 P.M. at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Pastor Michael Frangipane officiating. Entombment in David's Mausoleum.
