HANNER, Hazel Martyne (nee Sparks), Age 86, formerly of Centerville, OH, passed away Saturday September 25, 2016 at her care facility after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's in Port Orange, FL.
Born to William and Mary (Creech) Sparks on June 25, 1930 in Ashland, Ky. She was the youngest of nine children who preceded her in death, brothers, Arthur, Guy, Ellis, and John; sisters, Emily, Nora, Jewell, and Chelsea. Survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Albert Richard Hanner; children, Suzette Kallas and Phillip Richard Hanner (Lucy); grandchildren, Michael Logsdon, Jill Vari Garrett (Josh), and Ava Hanner; great Grandchildren, Ross Garrett, Brooke Garrett, and Josie Garrett and niece and best friend, Janet Sparks Kouns.
Hazel attended Boyd County High School in Ashland, KY before moving to the Dayton area. She worked for many years at Thal's, the Elder Beerman Regency room, and modeled part time. Hazel was well known for her brilliant smile, kind words, Christian faith, turtlenecks, the New Year's Day party featuring her famous Hot Pepper Stew, and the occasional yodel when blissful.
She was described as a classic beauty, but still a country girl at heart, loving the simple things in life. Beautiful, kind, peacemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
The family will greet friends from 11:30am-1:30pm on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH with a funeral service to follow at the funeral home. Burial at David's Cemetery.
