NYLAN, Helen Wonder died Feb. 10, 2001. A resident of Dayton and later of Oakwood, she was born September 27, 1903 at her parents' farm in Preble County Ohio, the first child of Hattie (Pence) and Arthur (Dick) Duffield. In 1940, she married Dr.John D.Wonder and he preceded her in death in 1956. In 1972, she married John Nylan, who died in 1985. She had been a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living of Englewood the past 3 1/2 years. Helen Nylan was a 1921 graduate of Jefferson High School in New Paris, OH. She attended Miami University and Defiance College and ultimately graduated from Depauw University, Greencastle, IN. with a major in Organ Performance and a minor in Public School Music. She taught four years of elementary school in New Paris and after graduation from college, taught music in New Paris and Eaton, OH. before moving to Dayton in the early 1930's. Her memberships included the Dayton Woman's Club, the Victory Theatre Association, the American Red Cross Home Service Corps, the Ladies Oriental Shrine, Bara Court #15, Con Ami Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Dayton Music Club, the College Women's Club, the Dayton Philharmonic Women's Association, the Centennial Garden Club and the League of Women Voters. In addition to playing the organ and the piano, she was an avid golfer and bridge player, having memberships at the Miami Valley and Walnut Grove Country Clubs. She is survived by one sister, Hilda Fulkerson of Punta Gorda,FL. and Centerville, OH;nieces and a nephew ,Jane (Fulkerson) Goldsmith, Sue (Glass) Goodrich, Kay (Glass) Jackson, Dick Glass and stepchildren, Bill Nylan and Michael Nylan. One step-grandchild, ten great and thirteen great-great nieces and nephews also survive, as well as her devoted friends, Harry Nagel and Tracy Williams. In addition to husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Erma Glass of Columbus, an infant sister Ruth Duffield, a brother, Heber Duffield of Richmond, IN., and a nephew, James (Jay) Fulkerson of Centerville. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at the Woodland Mausoleum Chapel, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton, OH.. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:00 A.M..
