Age 76, died Thursday morning, August 16, 2001 at Hospice of Dayton. Born January 4, 1925 in Transylvania, Romania, Henry emigrated from Western Europe to New York City in 1952, married in 1953, then came to Dayton in 1954, where he lived for the past 47 years. A retired bricklayer/stonemason supervisor, he belonged to St. John’s United Church of Christ, the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner German Club and Bricklayer’s Local Union No. 22. Henry enjoyed singing, dancing, fishing, crossword puzzles and game shows. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Edith Amanda; son and daughter-in-law Pete and Linda Zakel of Fremont, California; daughter and son-in-law Lori and Mark Knowles and grandchildren Megan and Marissa of Springfield; son Ken Zakel and Angie DeBrosse of Vandalia; and sisters Hermine, Jinny and Mitzi of Nurnberg, Germany. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Theil, also of Nurnberg, Germany. Services at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 20th at Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Avenue (Brown at Irving), Dayton; burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 N. Dixie Drive. The family will receive friends at Routsong Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 19th.
