WHALEN, Herbert E. Jr., age 90, of Kettering passed away Monday, February 12, 2007 at Kettering Medical Center. He was a member of St. Albert the Great Church. Herb was a graduate of Oakwood High School, attended the University of Dayton and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance. He worked as a General Agent at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. He was a member of the 39er’s, Miami Valley Hunt, Oregon Historic District Society, member of the Dayton Rotary, on the board of the American Red Cross, and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Herb was past president of the Dayton Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table, a founding partner of Dover Partners Inc. and member of the Miami Valley Estate Planning Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. and Marie (nee Schantz) Whalen Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ginny Whalen (nee Berghoff); children, Kathy (Jim) Kavanaugh of Washington Twp., Mike (Elizabeth) Whalen of FL and Bill (Susan) Whalen of Spring Valley; Herbert E. Whalen III “Hew” of FL, grandchildren James, Laura, John, and Ashley Kavanaugh, Patrick, Joseph and Daniel Whalen and Adam and Colleen Whalen; sisters, Janet Eilers of Kettering and Elaine Mitchell of Centerville; and brother, John E. (Jayne) Whalen of IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February, 17, 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering.
