Herbert Franklin Corson

CORSON, Herbert F., "Herb" 93, of Washington Township passed away Tuesday December 28, 2010, after a year of declining health. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bess Corson of Dayton; and by his sister, Martha Neubrand of Dallas, Texas. Herb is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janiece; three children, Larry, Sandy and Rick; three grandchildren, Lyndsey, Amy and David; and by dear friend Debbie Corson, all of Dayton. Herb graduated from Fairview High School in 1935 and graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Miami University in 1940. He served with distinction in World War II as an Army Air Corps bombardier-navigator aboard B-26 bombers, flying 39 missions over Africa and Italy before being shot down and spending the final two years of the war as a prisoner of war in Germany. Herb left the Air Force in 1950, when he founded the Corson Amusement Company in Dayton, which became the most successful business of its type in the area. He sold Corson Amusement Company in 1968 to American Automatic Vending and continued as branch manager for the new owners until 1982. In 1974 he built and opened Skateworld of Kettering, followed by Skateworld of Vandalia in 1976. All of his children and most of his grandchildren have worked at Skateworld during their careers. Herb liked to be surrounded by family and friends. He and Janiece spent much of their free time hosting friends at their cottage at Indian Lake and their winter home on Fort Myers Beach. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 3, 2011 at 7:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. Family will greet friends prior to the service from 5:00-7:00PM. Private interment in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Jim Periman and his son, Jimmy, who were Herb's daily caregivers and who have become close family friends.
