Homer Norvell

NORVELL, Homer, age 90, of Zanesville, OH, passed away on January 3, 2012, at the Muskingum County Home in Zanesville after an extended illness. He was born on April 27, 1921, to Chester and Etta Jones Norvell in Clover Bottom, Jackson Cty, KY. He was a member of Crown Point Pentecostal Church in Ridgewood Heights, OH, where he frequently played the guitar and sang. In 1967 Homer and his wife, Geneva, moved to Zanesville and opened Beltone Hearing which later became Norvell's Hearing. Homer was owner and president until 2006. He was a long-time member of the Sons of Song singers. He was a loving husband and father. He remained close to his friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Bicknell (Gene) and Marie McCowan (Jack); five brothers, Robert Norvell (Betty), Willard Norvell (Carmie), Alfred Norvell (Betty), Donald Ray Norvell (Alberta), and Earl Norvell (Joy). He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Geneva Norvell, and two sons, Merrill E. Norvell (Martha) of Belden, MS, and Bradley K. Norvell (Chris) of Zanesville, OH; five grandchildren, Bradley E. Norvell (Melissa) of Monks Corner, SC, Renee' McCown (Scott) of Amarilla, TX, Jacob Norvell (Stephanie) of Dallas, TX, Patrick Weatherford (Debra) of Booneville, MS, and Jennifer Curtis of Vicksburg, MS; three sisters, Devonna Rose (Cecil), Shirley Angel, Frances Orrill, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on January 5, 2012, at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 81 North Main St., Centerville, OH, with Rev. Bob Norvell, nephew of the deceased, officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. The family would like to express thanks for the wonderful care that was given by the Muskingum County Home and Genesis Hospice staff.
