BEALS, Sally Drewing, age 83, passed away on April 16, 2021. She led an active life of family, service and travel. Sally was born in 1937 in Tipp City, Ohio to Emma Gertrude (Frings) and Herman Edward Drewing. She graduated valedictorian from Tipp City High School and attended The Ohio State University where she studied Home Economics graduating in three years.
She met her husband of 61 years, John, at The Ohio State University Lutheran center and they married in 1958. They were avid buckeyes and long time season football ticket holders.
She is survived by her three children, John E. (Lori) Beals of Columbus, Nancy (Mary Harris) of Marysville, Jennifer Beals Smiley of Ormond Beach, FL.; three grandchildren, Peter Beals, Gavin Smiley, and Ella Smiley.
She was very proud to call the City of Centerville her home and was honored to serve the city of Centerville on Council and as Mayor for 16 years. She was instrumental to the development of the Golf Club at Yankee Trace, and community gathering places of Benham’s Grove and improvements to Stubbs Park. She also encouraged the use of canons in the 1812 Overture at the annual 4th of July concert and was pleased to have officiated over 350 weddings.
Sally was a proud Rotarian. She co-founded the Centerville-Washington Foundation. Served on many boards, including Kettering Hospital and GraceWorks. She was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church for over 55 years. She mastered many hobbies including gardening, domestic arts, history and world travel.
Sally enjoyed management activities of the family farm (circa 1939) in Miami County, which Spanned her lifetime from childhood 4H projects to family corn roasts and fire-wood harvesting.
She was a full-time cheerleader of her grandchildren’s activities including rowing regattas, soccer games, and band concerts.
Family will greet friends 1-4 pm Sunday, April 25, at Yankee Trace Golf Club. A second visitation will be held 9:00 am on Monday, April 26, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 6430 Far Hills Ave, Dayton 45459, with a Funeral Service beginning at 10:00 am with Rev. Jay Shailer officiating. This will be followed by a tribute drive past the Centerville Municipal Building and Stubbs Park. Burial will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City at 1 pm.
