Howard E. Balbach

BALBACH, Howard E. (Retired Capt. U.S. Army), age 91, of Kettering, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Howard was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army Artillery stationed in the Pacific Theatre where he received his Bronze Star for service in the China-India-Burma Campaign. He spent his entire career at Delco Products, a division of General Motors, where he was Maintenance Superintendent. He built his home in Kettering where he lived for 50 years. Howard was a founding member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church in Kettering, the Engineers Club of Dayton, Masonic Dayton Lodge #147, and a volunteer for many years as a special bowling friend for United Cerebral Palsy. He was preceded in death in 1979 by his wife, Pauline, and in 1997 by his son, James. He is survived by a sister, Mabel Williams of DeGraff OH; 2 grandchildren, Amy Balbach of Washington D.C. and John Balbach of Seattle WA; 2 nephews, Karl Balbach of Dayton and Charles Balbach of New York; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Balbach of Hudson OH. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, in Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd, Kettering, with Pastor Thomas D. Prochaska officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m., Saturday, in the funeral home. Burial in David's Cemetery, Kettering, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Shephard Lutheran Church, 901 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering OH 45429.
