KNOTT, Howard E., "Gene," 93, loving father and devoted husband passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Heartland of Kettering after a year long struggle with health problems. Gene was a pattern maker by trade and during his youth played semi-professional baseball for various factory teams in Dayton. He was also very active in the Pattern Maker's Union during his employment. Gene was preceded in death by his son, Douglas, in 1966, who was killed in Vietnam and his brother, Hugh. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Schubert) Knott of 70 years; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and John Keys; grandson, Zachary Keys and wife, Jessica and great-grandson, Logan Keys. A very special thanks to the kind and caring staff of Heartland of Kettering. Also, many thanks to Alternate Solutions Home Care employees and loving caregiver, Vernetta Cunningham. The support of our friends during this difficult year was much appreciated. Thanks to Gene's son-in-law, John for his patience and understanding.
