Jack Crittenden Everly

Everly, Jack C., age 74, of Oakwood, OH passed away Friday, January 31, 2003. He was born on October 25, 1928 to Crit and Virgie Harlow Everly in Jameson, MO. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna, four children and 10 grandchildren; P. David Everly & his son Jack of San Jose, CA, Mark & Ann Everly and children Aaron & Kathryn of Gallatin, MO, Diane & Dennis Jensen and children Nicoletta, Evan, Isabelle & Corbin of Grand Rapids, MI, and Mary & Charles Bane and children Theodra, Corinne & Andra of Oakwood, OH. Jack was raised on the family farm in Gallatin, MO and attended Hickory Grove School. He graduated valedictorian of Gallatin High School, 1946. He went on to University of Missouri where he was an active member of Farm House Fraternity and received his B.S. in 1950. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Donna Joan Edwardson in 1954. Jack and Donna settled in Urbana, IL where he achieved his masters and PhD in communications from the University of Illinois. During his 42 years at the U. of I., he taught agricultural communications and served as Head of the Office of Instructional Media & Television. Jack did free-lance photo journalism for many agricultural publications. He was editor of The NACTA Journal for 25 years. The Jack Everly Award for outstanding journalism was established in his honor. He maintained a strong interest in management of the family farm in Missouri. He served on the Board of Directors for Clark-Lindsey Retirement Village in Urbana, IL and was active in the Exchange Club. Following retirement in 1997, Jack and Donna enjoyed their homes in San Antonio, TX and Gallatin, MO. They recently moved to Oakwood, OH. Church affiliations include: Wesley United Methodist Church, Urbana, IL, Gallatin United Methodist Church, Gallatin, MO, University Presbyterian Church, San Antonio, TX, Christ United Methodist Church, Kettering, OH. We are thankful for Jack's life and how he portrayed God's love to others. A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, OH, Rev. Gary Bass officiating, 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 8, 2003.
