WORKMAN, Jack Walter, age 80 of Centerville, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018. Jack was born in Whitesville, WV on January 10, 1938 and was a graduate of Sherman High School. After graduation Jack went on to complete his undergraduate degree at West Virginia University and then completed his Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree at Ohio State University.
Jack was a retired Veterinarian who helped thousands of animals (and their human families) over his 40+ year career. He was a co-founder of the long-running Suburban Veterinary Clinic in Centerville Ohio; he was a past President and member of the Ohio Veterinary Association; he was also instrumental in the establishment of emergency veterinarian services in the Dayton/Montgomery County area. Jack was a member and Past-President of the Centerville Rotary Club where he helped serve youth and adults locally (in Ohio), and across the world, by providing needed medical and immunization services. In his role as a Rotarian, he was actively involved in local fund-raising efforts including being a planner, supervisor, cook, server and busser (among other things) for the annual pancake breakfast. Jack was a loving, compassionate and giving man who always did his best to help, and provide for, his family and others throughout his lifetime. He was an active member of the Normandy United Methodist Church where he served as a coordinator and trainer for all ushering services; this included him serving as head usher for numerous years.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors, which included cutting grass and working in the yard and on his property. He enjoyed taking fishing trips with close friends at various locations across the country. Jack also played and enjoyed watching a variety of different sports.
Jack is survived by his 2 sons J Wesley (Trisha) and Judson; his brother Robert and sister-in-law Teresa; seven grandchildren Simon (Sara), A.J., Ezekiel (Kristen), Emma, Owen, Honor and Josie; a host of special friends, and thousands of clients.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Southview Hospital for the exceptional care they provided Jack during his stay.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 with a service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Normandy United Methodist Church, 450 W. Alex-Bell Rd. in Centerville, Pastor Jim Riggs officiating. The burial will be at Davids Cemetery.
In honor of Jacks late wife Lois, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association in lieu of flowers.
