LOCKWOOD, Specialist James A., age 23, of Kettering, died on September 22, 2007 in Clarksville, TN as a result of an automobile accident. James served in Bravo Troop 1st Squadron 33rd Cavalry 3rd Brigade Combat Team 187th Infantry Regiment “Rakkasans” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He was a 2002 graduate of Fairmont High School, where he played freshmen football, ran sophomore, junior and senior track and was a photographer for the yearbook. After graduation, he worked at Logan Photography Studio, the Kettering Recreation Center and The Rustic Sign Company. In the spring of 2003, James moved to Missouri to spread his wings, where he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. He then moved back to Dayton, where he resumed working at the Kettering Recreation Center and began working at the Kroger’s One Hour Photo on Woodman Dr. in Kettering. James also attended Sinclair Community College briefly before returning to St. Louis to join the United States Army. He completed his basic training in Ft. Knox, KY, where he graduated as a Cavalry Scout. His first duty station was Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He was then transferred to Ft. Campbell, KY. Coincidentally, James was supposed to be deployed to Iraq on Friday, Sept. 28 to proudly serve his country. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Stephanie Moeller and his paternal grandfather, George A. Lockwood. James is survived by his fiancée, Rachel Litteral; mother and step-father, Linda and David McNamara; sisters, Brandi Briddell and her fiancé, Jason Crutchfield; Jessica Steiner and her children, Sarah, Shannon and Ian; brothers, Joshua McNamara and his daughter, Natalie; Robin McNamara and his fiancée, Molly McGovern; aunts; Maureen McNamara, Sally Madigan, Kim Moeller, Heidi and Guy Dennings and their children, Sarah and Ben, uncles, James and Amy McNamara and their children Andrew and Amanda; Lewis Moeller and his children, Destry, Sierra and Zachary; Ward and Ellen Moeller and their children, Meghan, Stephanie, Rachael and Erika; maternal grandfather, Donald Moeller; father, David Lockwood; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Lockwood; uncle, George and Becky Lockwood and their daughter, Christy and Josh Adams; aunt, Leslie Daley and Geoff Gordon and her daughter, Ashton Daley; paternal great-aunts, Edith Scharph and Virginia Morvack. A memorial service to commemorate and celebrate James’ life will be held on Friday, September 28 at 2:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. His family will receive friends and guests from 11:00AM until the time of the service also at the funeral home. James was always helping people, he would not want flowers, he would rather have memorial contributions be sent to Freedom Is Not Free, an organization that aids wounded service members, their families and the families of the fatally wounded.
