SHEEHAN, James Edward "Jim", age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born in Dayton on October 20, 1923 to the late Eugene and Evelyn (James) Sheehan.
James was preceded in death by his brother, Fred. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marilynn (Hamilton) Sheehan, his son, Geoffrey; daughters, Jamie Sheehan and Joan (Mark) Baker; granddaughter, Sara Baker; sister, Kathleen (John) Grissom; sister-in-law, Joanne Granzow, and loving pets, Molly, Ebby and Boots.
Jim graduated from Patterson Coop in 1941. He attended Officer's Training School in 1942 and served his country in the U.S Army in transport in the South Pacific and the Philippines. Jim also served his country during the Korean War. He remained in the Army Reserves until he retired as a Colonel in 1983.
Jim graduated with a degree in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Jim worked at Delco Moraine and Globe Industries before retiring in 1987 from Monarch Marking.
He was a loving, intelligent, artistic and patient man. Jim was a great handyman around the house. Jim painted many pictures and was an avid photographer. He and Marilynn travelled the world extensively after his retirement and made many new friends during their travels.
Jim was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Oakwood Historical Society. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Family will celebrate Jim's life with a memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road, on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Family will receive friends at the church following the service. Donations can be made in memory of Jim to Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 or the Oakwood Historical Society, 1947 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, OH 45419.
