GHORY, James E., 87, of St. Leonard Community in Centerville passed peacefully on October 18, surrounded by his family.
Born June 11, 1925 in Cincinnati to Esa and Marie (Rahby). Preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joseph and Henry, sisters Florence, Helen and Janet, and his loving wife of 55 years, Mary, who passed in 2004. Jim is survived by his children: Jim (Susan) Ghory of Kettering, Bill (Kathy) Ghory of Chicago, Jayne (Walter) Tritschler of Beavercreek, Terri (Paul) Gibble of Washington Twp. and Janet (Tom) Huelsman of Springboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly: April and Jim (Laura) Ghory, Jillian Ghory, Kevin (Kelli and great grandchildren Kara and Kayla) and Sarah (fianc Geoff) Tritschler, Anne (Marco) Vaschetto, Laura (Matt) McAlpine and David (Sarah) Gibble, and Stephanie and TJ (Ashley) Huelsman; his beloved sister Yvonne (Dennis) Murphy of Cincinnati, sister-in-law Jane (Erv) Oberschmidt of Southgate, KY, brother-in-law Jack (Ellen) Vollman of Akron, sister-in-law Norma "Sis" Ghory of Cincinnati, and many other family and friends.
Jim was raised in Cincinnati, attended Hughes High School, and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Gunner's Mate aboard the USS Houston in WWII, where he saw plenty of action in the Pacific. He was a tool and die maker by trade, working, among other places, at GE and Miamisburg Mound Laboratories, which resulted in a relocation to Dayton in 1962. He subsequently left the Mound for Dayton Garden Labels, where he worked as shop superintendent until his retirement. He enjoyed many happy years of retirement in the Waynesville and St. Leonard communities.
He was a proud man of solid character who enjoyed the artistry of working with his hands. He was well liked by all who met him and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff of the assisted living and nursing home units of St. Leonard, as well as the Hospice staff, for their kind care.
