James Harlen Horn

HORN, James Harlen, age 84, of Dayton passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Brookdale Place of Oakwood. He was born on December 29, 1928 in Winchester, OH to the late Harlen C. and Katherine J. (Jacobs) Horn. Jim graduated from Stivers High School in 1946 then began working for NCR. Soon after he began working, he took a short leave to serve in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict then returned to work for NCR. After 27 dedicated years of working at NCR he then went on to work for the United States Government until his retirement in 1991. He attended the University of Dayton where he is a member of the 50 year Alumni. Jim loved spending time outdoors tending to his flower and vegetable garden and also fishing with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Nell. Jim is also survived by his children, Michael (Carla) Horn of Dayton, Shelly (Steve) Spohn of Cincinnati, Bob (Tammy) Horn of Kettering, and Larry (Janie) Horn of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Heath, Billy, Tiffany and Tonya Horn and Andrew and Tyler Spohn; and special niece, Judy Wells. Family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, June 28, 2013 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
