age 85 of Centerville, died Friday, May 11, 2001. Born in Quincy, Illinois, he was raised in Joplin, Missouri. James graduated from the University of Illinois as an Electrical Engineer. He worked at Wright Field in what became the Aeronautics Lab from 1939 to 1956 and 1972 to 1985. In 1950 he received the top honor of the Civilian Service Award for outstanding work in development of airborne electric ground position indicator equipment. He was Director of the NCR postal division where the first ZIP code was developed. A past President of the IRE and NAECON convention, he was honored as a Fellow by the IRE. Preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Podesta. Survived by his wife, Francis; a daughter, Nancy of Portland, OR; 4 sons, David and his wife, Veretta of Worthington, OH, Robert and his wife, Mary of San Diego, CA, James Jr. of Medford, OR, and William and his wife, Mary of Albuquerque, NM; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Pastor Richard Bausman officiating. The family will greet friends from 1-2:00 P.M., Wednesday in the funeral home.
