James Lee Miller

MILLER, James Lee, age 94, passed away at his home on May 4, 2016 in Kettering Ohio. James was born on January 2, 1922 to Clyde and Emile (Beckett) Miller in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Steele High School in 1940. On Christmas Day, 1941, he married the love of his life, Janet Stoddard, to whom he was married for 71 years and preceded him in death on October 23, 2012. Jim served in the US Army in the Pacific during WWII. He graduated from The University of Dayton in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering. James was an engineer and executive with Frigidaire from 1950-1974 and with Delco Air from 1974-1980 and in retirement enjoyed attending the T.O.M. Club. Jim was devoted to his family, friends, and The Memorial Baptist Church of Dayton where he was a lifelong member. Jim's hobbies included water skiing, boating, piloting his Piper or Cessna, square dancing, riding one of his Harley motorcycles, canoeing, and trumpet playing. He enjoyed summer vacations in Parry Sound, Ontario and winters at his second home in Scottsdale, Arizona. James is survived by his son, James Miller, Jr. of India; daughter, Susan Reichard of Kettering; son, Donn (Peggy) Miller of OR; and son, Mike Miller of Kettering; Eight grandchildren; Betsy (Daniel) Bellavia of Perrysburg; Michael Reichard of PA; Debbie (Joshua) Reichard-Smith of Springboro; Stephen Reichard of Kettering; Kevin Lane of OR; Heather Brooten of WA; Britney (Brian) Bradley of OR; and Rebecca Miller of OR. Fifteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and nephew Tim (Jean) Gaffney of Miamisburg. Family will greet friends on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd, Kettering with services to follow at 12:00pm with Rev. Daniel Bellavia officiating. Interment to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Dayton for all the compassionate care they gave to James.
