James Rion

February 5, 1941 — February 15, 2017

RION, James Paul, died February 15, 2017 after a 10 year courageous battle with melanoma. He was born February 5, 194l in Dayton, OH. James graduated from Fairview High School and The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State he became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He also spent two years in the Army before attending and graduating from Toledo Law School. James joined his father's firm and began the practice of criminal law. His brother John Hayes Rion, upon his graduation from law school, joined both of them. The practice with his brother was eventually dissolved, but James continued to practice law in Dayton for over 40 years. He had a God given gift for the love and respect of all that he met and he was loved in return. He also had the ability to bounce back with a smile on his face no matter what the dilemma. James enjoyed the sport of polo and played on the Dayton team. He loved horses, the outdoors and fly fishing in Jackson Hole, WY. But, most of all, he loved his children, grandchildren and the rest of his family. James is preceded in death by his parents, Paul West Rion and Vera Elizabeth Spitler Rion. He is survived by his daughter Erica Rion and son Seth Rion (Barbara), grandsons Tyler and Matthew Rion, sister Patricia Louise McCart (Harold) nephew Harold F. McCart, III (Leslie), brother John Rion (Barbara), niece Stacey MacDonald (John Brock), nephew Jon Paul Rion (Megan), niece Jennifer Gaboury (John). Grand nieces and nephews: Arabella McCart, Shelby McCart, Petal McCart, Sydney MacDonald, Henry MacDonald, Isabella Rion, Hayes Gaboury, and Ava Gaboury. There will be a Memorial Service on March 4th at 2 PM in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Avenue, Oakwood, OH and according to his wishes, his ashes will be spread in the Teton Range in Jackson Hole, WY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
