CARPENTER, James R. "Bob," age 84 of Kettering, passed away on October 10, 2010. Bob was born on July 4, 1926 to the late Everett and Minnie Lindsay Carpenter. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Lee Everett Cooper. He is survived by his wife, Angenette, who he married on September 11, 1948; 62 years ago. He is also survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Tammy) of Cape Coral, FL and Lindsay Lee of Troy; brother Ken Carpenter (Faye) and his sister-in-law, Shirley Carpenter of Kettering; two grandchildren, Noelle Carpenter of Kettering and Joshua Carpenter of Florida; step-grandsons, Jeremy Gootee and Jared Key of Springboro; several great-grandchildren, nieces nephews and many friends. Bob was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1944. During WWII, he was a Staff Sergeant in the 77th Division, 307th Infantry. He was wounded in the Battle of Okinawa, for which he received 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars and other decorations. Bob was employed at the McCall Corp. where he retired after 39 years. He was President of Local 54, IPP&AU Union. He was also a life member of VFW Post 2800, DAV Chapter 9, the Shamrock Club and the Scottish Lindsay Clan of America. Bob was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge #147, Reed Commandry #6, Victory Chapter Royal Arch Masons #210, Antioch Shrine of Dayton, York Rite and AASR Valley of Dayton where he received the Red Cap Meritorious Award. He was also Past Patron of Harvest Chapter #564 and a member of American Legion Post 598. Bob always enjoyed being with family and friends, camping at the beach, traveling, boating, doing genealogy of the family and watching little children play. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on October 14, 2010 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd in Kettering with Rev. Dr. David E. Jackson officiating. The Masonic ceremony will begin at 10:00AM. Burial will take place in Bear Creek Cemetery, following the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8:00PM on October 13, 2010.
