METZLER, James S., age 81, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011. James was a member of Ascension Catholic Church for over 40 years and he had a very strong faith. He said prayers every day with his loving wife Loretta. James served our country proudly in the National Guard and worked as a machinist for Tait Manufacturing for 36 years. Pitching baseball was one of James' favorite things to do. He enjoyed the relaxation and peace of being on the mound. He also loved watching Cincinnati Reds Baseball games. James was a humble, supportive man who loved taking care of his family. He never had an ill word to say and he always took life's ups and downs like a king.
Preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Lila; son, Bruce Metzler; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.
James is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Loretta S.; son, Michael (Michael S.) Metzler of Chicago, IL; daughter-in-law, Sharon Metzler; grandchildren, Shirley (Butch), Ira, Tony, Connie (Rusty) Lynch, Rob (Sherry) Metzler, Sarah Scott, Justin Swinford, and Sarah Swinford; great-grandchildren, 5 girls and 4 boys; great-great-grandchildren, 3 girls and 9 boys; brother, William (Phyllis) Metzler; sister-in-law, Marion Carter; and many nieces, nephews, and dear neighbors and friends.
Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, December 19, 2011 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
