James Torrence Lynn Jr.

LYNN Jr., James Torrence, age 92, of Dayton passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013. He was born in Portsmouth, OH on October 10, 1920. James was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and of Ohio State University. He was a decorated veteran of WW II with the 402nd Artillery battalion/42nd Infantry Division where he saw action in France, Austria, and Germany in 1944-45 and was honorably discharged with rank of captain. James was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity while an undergraduate at Ohio State. In law school, he was on the Law Review and Order of the Coif. Mr. Lynn received his law degree from Ohio State University and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1949. He was in private practice for over 50 years in Dayton. He retired from the firm of Young, Pryor, Lynn, and Jerardi which he co-founded. He was President of the Dayton Bar Association in 1969 and a member of the Executive Committee of the Ohio Bar Association. He was a member of the Dayton Bicycle Club, a charter member of Sycamore Creek Country Club and later a member of Moraine Country Club for many years. James is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara Allen and daughter, Nancy Allen Lynn. He is survived by his children, James T. (Lynn Bond) Lynn III, David M. (Susan) Lynn and Sarah E. Lynn; grandchildren, Nancy Egan, James Lynn IV, Peter Muntean, Daniel Lynn, Emma Lynn, Elizabeth Haught, Jack Haught; and great-grandchildren, Vanleer Bond Egan, Brook Eleanor Egan, and Theodore Raymond Egan. The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale of Oakwood for all their care and compassion. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
