James W. Falter

FALTER, James W., of Beavercreek, died on December 20, 2018 at the age of 85. He was born to Charles W. and Addie McKee Falter on January 5, 1933 in Deaconess Hospital Ironton, OH. He graduated from Ironton High School in 1951 and then joined the United States Navy where he served during the Korean War for four years in Naval Aviation. After his discharge he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1961, and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Dayton in 1976. During that year he also graduated from Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama. Jim spent his working career in Research and Development at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. During his 35 year career he received numerous awards for distinguished civilian service and was active in local science groups, Chairman of the Dayton Section of I.E.E.E. and President of Sigma Xi. Following his retirement in 1993, he turned his interests to finance and investing. He was appointed to the Tri-State Better Investing Council, teaching and advising investment clubs in the area. He served as a V.I.T.A. volunteer, working over ten years helping the low income and elderly with their income taxes. He also helped his church in building a Habitat for Humanity House. A long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Jim served as a youth worker, as a vestryman, on the Rector Search Committee, and on the church school curriculum committee. He taught Sunday School, was the Head Usher for many years, and was the Treasurer and an advisor of Episcobucks, St. Paul’s Investment Club.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue, and three sons: David (Margaret) of Chicago, Nicholas of Dayton, and Thomas (Karen) of Cincinnati; by six grandchildren Henry, Samuel, Nicholas, Quinn, Zachary and Paige; by his sister Joyce Rapp of Ironton and Worthington, OH, and by one niece Lisa (Mark) Brower of Westerville, OH.
A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 West Dixon Avenue, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 12 noon, the Rev. Gregory Sammons officiating. Beginning at 10 a.m., the family will receive friends in St. Paul’s Cloister for two hours prior to the service. A light luncheon will be held in the Parish Hall following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, gifts should be made in remembrance of Jim to the charity of their choice. For additional information please contact www.routsong.com.
