CLARKE, Janet Mardis, of Kettering, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013. After graduating from Oakwood High School, Janet received her Bachelor of Arts in English and History from Ohio University. She was the Dayton Daily News Fashion Editor for many years and then Publications Editor for Miami Valley Hospital. More recently Janet was Public Relations Director for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Her many volunteer efforts included the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Association, Dayton Philharmonic Women's Association, Dayton Opera Guild, P.E.O., Kettering City Beautification Committee and serving on many Kettering City Schools' committees. Janet authored "What Great Matter a Little Fire Kindleth," a history of Miami Valley Hospital's first 75 years. All who knew her know how she cherished Torch Lake, Michigan and the friends there that became like family. Janet is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James F. Clarke. She leaves behind her son, Jeffrey (Christine Whitaker-Clarke) Clarke; grandson, Zachary Clarke and many, many dear friends near and far, as well as her very special neighbors. She had a way of bringing a smile to everyone with whom she crossed paths, with a kind word or laugh. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 8, 2013 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 West Dixon Avenue, Oakwood, with a wake to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to The Wilkinson Homestead Historical Society, Inc., Torch Lake, Michigan, PO Box 102, Eastport, MI 49627 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
