Janet N. Thatcher

THATCHER, Janet N., age 79, of Kettering, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019. Janet was born on May 7, 1939 to the late George and Margaret Duncan, in Isle of Arran, Scotland. She and her family came to America when she was 18 years old but always remained proud of her Scottish heritage. Janet worked for the city of Kettering as a school bus driver for nearly 30 years and found it especially rewarding working with handicapped children. She was an expert knitter, enjoyed reading, and loved collecting Boyd Bears, Precious Moments, and Longaberger baskets, amongst other things. Janet most enjoyed spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Brooks Elder, and step-children Stephanie Potter and Dwight “Skip” Thatcher the third.

Janet is survived by her husband of 35 years Dwight Thatcher Jr.; children Jackie (Tom) Brannen, Lori Elder, and Scot Elder; step-children, Pamela (Mike) Bruns and Lisa Thatcher; grandchildren Jacob (Whitney) Brannen, Sarah (Aaron) Warkentin, Brooks Elder, and Scot Elder Jr.; step-grandchildren, Jessica Fox, Lindsey (Tommy) Stansberry, Dustin Vincke, and Brittany Bruns; great-grandchildren, Sadie and Ellie Brannen, and Axel Warkentin; step great-grandchildren, Ben and Ethan Fox, and Cooper and Brooklyn Stansberry; sister Loretta Prugh; Skye the lab; and numerous extended family.

A visitation will be held from 11-1pm, on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with a service to follow at 1pm. Entombment at David’s Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale of Oakwood and Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton for the excellent care they provided for Janet. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice.
